Palm laugh off Apple ‘iPhone’

I liked this story in The Mercury News via MDN ...

“Is Apple serious competition?: Palm CEO Ed Colligan seems downright nonchalant about rumors that Apple may introduce a mobile phone to market in the coming year,” Sarah Jane Tribble and Dean Takahashi report for The San Jose Mercury News.

“Responding to questions from New York Times correspondent John Markoff at a Churchill Club breakfast gathering Thursday morning, Colligan laughed off the idea that any company—including the wildly popular Apple Computer—could easily win customers in the finicky smart-phone sector.”

”’We’ve learned and struggled for a few years here figuring out how to make a decent phone,’ he said. ‘PC guys are not going to just figure this out. They’re not going to just walk in.’”

Well, to paraphrase Danny in Withnail… ‘very, very foolish words man’.

But of course, Palm are just so stellar who am I to criticise!

Dear Mr Wacom,

I would like to thank you kindly for developing such an amazing plank. Without this “Wonder Plank” (and I feel I chose my words wisely even though there could be an ensuing legal battle from a famous brand of busten holster), stories of bravado and ridicule would simply not make sense. But now with this wonderful technology of yours – available at all good retailers for only slightly more than an average round of best bitter – story tellers are able to draw green monsters and snorting rhinos.

I now truly know I am alive.

Yours bored in a design office creating nothing but crap business cards… ;-)
